Liverpool Swansea share honours in a goalless stalemate
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 were held on to a draw by a gritty Swansea City in a Premier League match played at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
The result further elongated the Reds recent unbeaten streak in the league to eight matches now, but kept them entrenched in the bottom half of the table. They now have 16 points from their 13 matches.
On the other hand, the South http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup would have happily taken a point before the fixture. Besides, the draw lifted them to the upper half of the table and kept them on track for emulating their
sensational achievements in the previous campaign.
The game started at an electrifying pace with the Swans creating the first real opportunity. Wayne Routledge forced a smart save from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 in the eleventh minute.
However, only moments later, Laudrup’s men were made to take cover by the Reds. A potent loss cross from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Glen-Johnson-c15050 managed to find Jose Enrique inside the 6 yards box, but an awkward bounce forced the defender to try to chest the ball into the far corner.
The ball narrowly missed the target.
After getting their foothold in the match, Liverpool started to dominate the proceedings and looked to be the more likely team to break the deadlock. Enrique played a cheeky through pass for Johnson with his first-touch to send the English International
one-on-one with the Gerhard Tremmel. Although the ensuing shot from the full-back was a decent one, it somehow caught the outstretched leg of the goalkeeper to deny the visitors the opener.
Raheem Sterling then came close to scoring as he belted a powerful volley from a corner kick. However, this time, luck came to the rescue of the home team as the ball bounced back after smashing the woodwork with the goalkeeper comfortably beaten.
More drama was soon to follow as a clever little dink from Luis Suarez in the 33rd minute was tapped in by Enrique, but the linesman waved the flag for off-side much to the disbelief and frustration of the Liverpool players. Nonetheless, the replays
suggested that the match official was spot on with his decision.
After the restart, the Reds seemed to have taken their foot off the pedal, as Swansea started to get into their rhythm and began to dominate the possession.
However, the best opportunity of the half fell to Suarez, who found himself facing just a single Swansea defender with Sterling to aid him on the right. A nice little pass was all that was needed from Sterling to send the striker through on goal. But the
juvenile winger played the ball a little wider to the left of Suarez, allowing the defenders to get back to their positions and the move culminated with Tremmel collecting a weak strike from the forward.
From thereon, both the sides pressed forward to clinch the winner, with Liverpool looking the more intent of the two. Nevertheless, neither succeeded in cracking open their opponents’ backline and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
