Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers eyes Chelsea youngster Josh McEachran for loan move
Brendan Rodgers, the Swansea City manager, revealed he was interested in bringing Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran on a loan move. However, the Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas has not yet made the 18-year-old English midfielder available for a move in the upcoming transfer window.
Rodgers however is determined to land the youngster, even if it is on a loan move, having previously worked with McEachran. The Swansea City boss previously worked under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge and is aware of the talent the young midfielder possesses.
Rodgers said while speaking to reporters:
“I need to have a conversation at length (with Chelsea).
Josh is not playing at the moment; he is on the bench, although he played (against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043) last night.”
Rodgers revealed he was planning to speak to Villas-Boas about a possible loan move since he felt the player’s talents were going to waste at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. So far McEachran has gone on to make just three appearances this season, with only one of those coming in the English Premier League.
According to the Swansea City boss McEachran would be guaranteed regular first team football, something he did not have at Chelsea at the moment. The manager revealed the Chelsea manager had played with his son at youth level and had immense talent, which had to be developed at this stage.
He revealed:
“He is a wonderful talent and the positive thing is that clubs see Swansea as a club that can develop such talents.”
Having prior acquaintance with the Portuguese manager, Rodgers was certain he could convince Villas-Boas to part ways with McEachran. He maintained the midfielder had a better chance of developing and improving at the recently promoted side than with the Premier League giants.
Rodgers said:
“I think (Chelsea manager) Andre (Villas-Boas) and (sporting director) http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Emenolo understand he will need to get some games and when that moment comes he is certainly a player who would do terrific here.”
However, Rodgers admitted his side currently did not possess the funds to buy a talented player like McEachran, which is why they were willing to settle for a loan move. At the end of the day though, it all depends on whether or not Villas-Boas agrees to the move.
He continued:
“We don't have the finances to buy such players but if it allows us to loan players then I would be confident in what we could give such a player.”
