Mark Gower, the 32-year-old Swansea City midfielder, said he felt http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 striker Fernando Torres deserved the red card in the match over the weekend. The English midfielder expressed relief at not suffering a serious injury and confirmed that he would be
available next weekend.
The 27-year-old Spaniard scored in the Blues’ 4-1 win over the weekend, but was sent off in towards the end of the first half for a foul on Gower. Even though the Swansea City man did not sustain any serious damage, the referee felt that the two footed lunge
deserved a sending off.
Even though Chelsea were down to ten men for the remainder of the match, the London side went on to win the match 4-1, conceding a late goal. Gower insisted the tackle by Torres deserved a red card and said he was glad at not being sidelined with injury
because of the unnecessary tackle.
Gower said in an interview:
“It was not a nice tackle and it was definitely a red card.
Thankfully, I have managed to get most of my body out of the way.
He has caught my ankle but you'll have to ask him why he has done it.”
Gower revealed it had been his quick reflexes that had saved him from a more serious injury, since Torres had gone in with a two footed tackle, which could have proved to be rather dangerous. With just a graze from the incident, Gower has made himself available
for the next fixture.
He continued:
“It seemed like a needless tackle at the time. I had half a bad touch so I was stretching. He seemed to lunge in and I caught him out of the corner of my eye and tried to get out of the way.
His feet came off the floor and there was intent.
I've a graze but it won't affect me. I'll be fit for next week.”
