The chairman of Swansea City, Huw Jenkins ruled out the option of, off loading the club’s 33-year-old defender, Garry Monk during the summer transfer window.
Monk joined the Welsh club during the 2004/05 season from Barnsley FC, at a time when the Swans were tottering in the Football League Two. Since then, he has represented the club at all levels on their way up to the top division. All in all, he has capped
231 appearances for Swansea and netted 5 goals during this period.
However, since the manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup signed the defender Chico Flores from Genoa, rumour mill has been in the overdrive on the subject of Monk’s possible future destination. If some reports are to be believed, Laudrup is contemplating off loading
the player during the summer, as he sets out to build on the foundations laid down by the former manager, Brendan Rodgers.
Championship side, Bristol City are believed to be keen on hiring the services of the defender.
Nevertheless, Jenkins quashed all the rumours surrounding the player’s possible exit from the Liberty Stadium, terming him the ‘mainstay’ of the squad and believed that he has still got a lot to offer to the club.
While talking to reporters, he said: “Garry is one of the mainstays of our squad, and that is not likely to change. He is one of our senior players and he is a huge influence in the dressing room, so he's not someone we would like to lose.”
The Bedford native has still got two years left on his contract with Swansea, and will also see a match played in his testimonial once he completes his stipulated term.
However, with the admission of new signings and the fact that the defender managed to feature in just 18 games last season, Monk himself is expected to weigh up his options. The prospect of being a part of first team action in a Championship side is likely
to be one luring factor, as he takes a decision in this regard.
Jenkins admitted that some players are expected to part ways with the club during the summer, but was confident that the exits won’t have an adverse affect on Swansea.
“Between now and the end of August when the transfer window closes, a few things will happen — but they won't be detrimental to our club.”
