Swansea City beat Blackburn Rovers 3-0 in a Premier League match on Saturday, at the Liberty Stadium.
The defeat left Steve Kean’s side in a quagmire, as they crashed down to the nineteenth spot, with only four more games to play in the season.
Gylfi Sigurdsson and Nathan Dyer scored the first two goals for the home side on the afternoon, before an own goal from Scott Dann in the second half summed up a miserable outing for the Rovers.
The win helped the Swans end their four match losing streak in the league, and condemned the visitors to their 5th defeat in a row.
Blackburn looked the better of the two sides in the opening stages of the game, and had a penalty shout ruled out against them in the third minute.
A couple of early set pieces for the Rovers tested the hosts’ defence, and Dann came close of scoring from a corner kick, but his header went wide of the mark.
However, Brendon Rodger’s side started to find their rhythm in the game, and had a penalty appeal of their own turned down in the 23rd minute. Sigurdsson broke into the Rovers box and was apparently tripped by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Morten-Gamst-Pedersen-c26824, but the referee
Mark Clattenburg waved play on.
Minutes later, Sigurdsson’s pile driver from outside the area was dealt with the visitor’s goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Robinson-c29389. However, the Icelander was not to be denied again in the 37th minute, as he collected a clever pass from Joe Allen and calmly
bent the ball past the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 skipper in the top left corner, to put his side in front.
A poor defensive error from N’Zonzi could have resulted in the Swans second goal, but an 18 yard effort from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Graham saw Robinson produce a good save.
Despite being a goal up, the Swans continued to create most of the chances, and doubled their lead at the stroke of halftime. Another error in the Rovers rearguard allowed Sinclair to play the ball inside the box. Graham picked up an unmarked Dyer, who blasted
the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal from close range.
Both the sides exchanged a couple of early attacksjust after the break, but failed to find the back of the net.
The visitors came closest to scoring in the 50th minute, after Bradley Orr picked up Dunn inside the area with his header, but the English footballer failed to execute the volley and his effort was comfortably saved by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-Vorm-c25482.
However, a moment of brilliance from Sigurdsson in the 62nd minute, all but ended Blackburn’s efforts to salvage something out of the game. Sinclair made a dashing run from the right flank and sprayed the ball in the path of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iceland-c2921 footballer.
His shot from an acute angle hit the post and ricocheted off http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scott-Dann-c32662 into the goal.
A couple of attacking moves from Blackburn in the closing stages were not good enough to earn them the consolation goal, as the Swans eased to a 3-0 win and moved to the 12th spot in the league table.
