Sweating a lot when running?

i'm a female, 15, 116 lbs., and 5'4. i'm doing this summer running club for highschool to get me prepared for cross country as a sophmore and we run anywhere between 3-6 miles in the morning. we start running at 6:45 a.m. and when the workout is finished, i'm drenched in sweat. it's really embarrassing because no one else is sweating as much. i'm very well physically fit so that can't be the problem and i don't have any sort of medical condition that can lead to this. we run at an easy pace and we also run in a pack so i can't say that i'm running harder than anyone else. i drink alot of water and i'm just having a hard time figuring out why i sweat so much. what could it be?

  1. i've been running since i was 7, and in middle school cross country, i used to be so self conscious about sweating so much. i've found a lot of remedies.

make sure you use a deodorant that clearly states it is an antiperspirant, which basically means it stops you from sweating. i use that teen spirit strawberry stuff. it smells so good and i don't sweat that much. if it's hot, i'll put it on my unterarms and my lower back and legs (to stop my shorts from riding up). it sounds weird, but seriously. put that stuff wherever you sweat.

secondly, what are you running in? if you're wearing a cotton t-shirt, you might want to consider a lighter material. if you go to any sporting goods store, or i even found some awesome clothes at target, there's shirts and tanks made of material that wicks sweat away from your body. make sure you read the tags to make sure. this material helps tremendously to keep you cool and doesn't show sweat. also, sleeves make you alot hotter, so i would suggest wearing something sleeveless, because you sweat alot when you're hotter.

thirdly, if you're sweating from your face, a sweatband might be good. i wear one, and it's great cause it doesn't drip in my eyes. you may think it's dorky looking, but i got a lot of compliments. some guys and girls ask me if they can wear it cause it apparently looks really cool and works well. you can also wear a hat, but find one that has a built in sweatband, i found one from nike, that can absorb sweat. also, a hat can block the sun, which is good too so you can see where you're going.

and if none of these work for you, but i doubt they wouldn't, it may just be the way your body is. if you're stalky, broad or have big bones, you have a larger stature, so you sweat more to cool off your bigger body. you sound pretty tall, so i'm sure that's why you sweat more. it's not because you're not in good shape or you're fat, i'm 5'7" and i weigh 120 and i sweat alot. just learn to accept it. you're gonna be the runner who never gets heat exaustion. =] make sure you keep drinking lots of water and decrease your salt intake as much as possible. good luck!

  2. you probably just sweat more than others. it's natural. same thing happens to me. don't worry about it too much

  3. As long as you're well-hydrated and not overheating, sweating a lot after three to six miles is nothing to worry about.

  4. Dont worry about it...Sweating is good for you!

  5. The sweating is absolutely normal. As long as you replenish the the sweat you lose you will be fine.

  6. Sweating is a good thing, its your bodys way of cooling you.

Some people do have excessive sweating and there are some over the counter products use could use such as Drysol : http://ezinearticles.com/?Treatment-for-...

There is a condition called Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), it is quite common and treatable.  Talk to your doctor about it, if it concerns you.   Here is a link about Hyperhidrosis:  http://www.medicinenet.com/hyperhidrosis...

  7. If you don't sweat, it means you aren't working hard enough.  I'm pretty sure once you run on a daily basis, your body will adjust to it and you'll sweat less.
