Just wondering, how hot its been around y'all.

Today it was a chilly 103F, with a heat index of 110F, needless to say I had me some sweat in strange places.

How hot is it for you riding yer horse?

  1. Mid to low 90's here in Salt Lake City. Feels great compared to the weather in Georgia. And to think people here are complaining about how hot it is. I ought to ship some of them to GA and see if they ever complain about the heat again.

Luckily my poor TB is on the truck right now heading here to UT with me. Finally. He'll be glad for the cooler temps. Poor guy just stands in his stall dripping with sweat.

  2. It was about 103-105 out here in Northern Cali and it rained last night(We got a warm thunder storm) so it made it nice and humid. I was outside in it all day...yuck...so I feel ya on that one

  3. it didnt get as hot as your place in benton arkansas it got 94 degrees

but it is supposed to rain a little tommarow in 90 degree weather

  4. Hot and dry here...I HATE the dry season here.  Goes from about end of May to September...then we get 10-20 inches a month.  Go figure...we mold...or we shrivel up and mummify...

So dang much smoke in the sky and air from all the wildfires.  Actually starting to make people have hoarse throats.  *haha...no pun intended*

I gotta picture somewhere of 'high noon' with no clouds...but this is the view when the fires are burning...be back soon...

We drove down the road to get photos...burn season comes round every stinking year...and this year we have an arsonist moving around...http://i36.tinypic.com/2nv5ymp.jpg

It's weird...you can feel the heat from the sun and the temperature...but the light is so freaking weird.  It's just not...'right.'

  5. Think positive tomorrow.  At least you don't have to wear a sweaty bra!  haha

  6. it was up into the 80s today but i didn't need to saddle up for the last couple of days.we had rain and lots of it yesterday and i am getting a nice soft sprinkle tonight but had tornado watch earlier and we are still under a flash flood watch.we have had a bad drought up here so the rain is a great thing.our pastures are almost shot and grass hay is hard to find and i dont grain my horses in the summer due to the fact it makes them crazy to work around cattle when it is hot.last week we set a new heat record of 98.

  7. this white girl is burning up....we have to wait till about 8 in the evening before we can rope....then we only got what 1 1/2 of daylight....i just moved north from texas...and here i dont have the humidity but im still burning up....it was 105 here a couple days ago....yuck...my horses are standing outside sweating....its horrible...and it all seems worse this yr.....my poor poor black horse...lol

  8. HAHA. I think my horse would die in that heat. It's been.. oh.. well 90's at the absolute hottest here. And he's covered in sweat by the time I'm done riding, never mind in that heat!!! I love the summer though...

I get to ride whenever :]

  9. its been raining here in western pa but quit today so i could practice

with my horses don't have indoor arena :(

    **edit** sorry its moving east

i never thought about an aussie slicker thanks

  10. Hello,

    Well our weather today:

88F and cloudy...  trying to sprinkle finely, but not really panning out.

The hottest part of the day here during the summer is 5PM, which is so funny...we lived in Southern CA until last year, and the hottest time there was about 1PM<

We try to ride early or late, and it gets in the 90F here....  NO more 100F ++++  YES, don't miss that at all!

HANG in there, ride really early or really late in the evening....  did that  before and now I know I sound like a cry baby since it is a good 20 degrees cooler here...LOL

DRINK lots of water, work some of those cows for me...I MISS that, we don't have our roping arena up yet, but they are grading it!

DANG, it must be hot...  Is it humid there too???  Your heat index is really high...  WE are dry here...it does help a bunch.

  11. I don't think my horses would last in that heat.  We usually have 90's at most here in WI.  They handle the icy cold winters much better than they would 100+ degrees.

  12. Ugh, I know how you feel. It was 115F where I was - and 107F in the shade! I hate waking up early - but to ride out of the heat is well worth the lost sleep. It's 80F here right now (sadly, I'm COLD too!) and it is 10:00pm where I live. I can't wait for fall and winter <3

  13. my summer has sucked so far it hasnt been 90 at all if you want rain come to ny it never stops i hate it i want it  to be hot the hotest part was in late may the hotest day we have had up here was the 4 of july

  14. its been like 80-90ish here in NE. also weve had some great breeze and rain. but i cant imagin ur heat....

  15. what happened to that cold shower..hehe

  16. i guess i should count my self lucky to be alittle bit more north of where ever your at cause i dont think ive ever rode in weather that hot. . . but it does get humid here. (feels like walking into a brick wall some days)

i'm in pa, and yeah it gets hot and humid in the summers and freezeeeingggg! in the winters. (okay yeah i dont like cold)anyway, hottest i remember riding in was in ky and yeah i did sweat is some strange places that i didnt know i could sweat outta.  i think the temp that week got up pretty close to 100.but most days in pa we get up to around 90ish with a wall of humidity that makes you pour out sweating. hehe, not the heat that will kill you but the humidity will drop ya in a second.

why i only rode early mornings or after the heat broke.

  17. Blah i hate it when its hott! Lol i havent had the chance to ride my mare yet, but i will in a few days when i get back from MO. But it has been up to 90.

I live in MN and its ussally about 80 with alot (ha ha forgot what its called) but like moisture lol i feel dumb! So i dont want to ride my mare, but i will ride her bareback because she needs it.

Why cant it just be sunny and nice but the temp be like 60! lol

  18. Well Kevin. I'm in central Texas and we finally got a WHOLE DAY OF RAIN!!!!! It was a nice balmy 90 degrees up here today. Yesterday it got up to 105 and tomorrow we're suppose to be back up there again.

We normally try to get up early in the morning at 3 or 4 and start working our futurity cutters and reiners in the lighted arena. This way they won't get worn down so easy. But in the afternoons when I'm out giving lessons or bringing in cattle, HOT! Making me sweat just thinking about it.

KEVIN- Buck up! Us texans are suppose to be tough skinned! You're mighty frisky like a texas man, so don't wuss out on me.

Can you just imagine how this winter is going to be? Last year we were able to have Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner outside on the porch it was so warm. Nice and rainy last year, this year a drought- so you know what that means for next year right? RAIN!!!!!!!!

  19. It's been downright terrible here.

The temperature is okay, but the humidity makes it so much worse.

All the barn work has given me a bad case of swamp @$$.

A lot of the instructors want to have lessons in the shade in the indoor, but there is absolutely no breeze in there. I prefer wading around in the creek with the horses, but seeing as there are tons of horse-eating fish (OMG minnows!!!!!) in our creek, I don't think any horse would put up with being in the water longer than it takes to run across.

Almost every horse here has been clipped in one way or another, mostly on the neck and saddle area.
