Swede Fredrik Jacobson records maiden win on PGA Tour at Travelers Championship
Fredrik Jacobson, the 36-year-old Swede who has been playing on the PGA Tour for the last eight years without any respite, clinched his maiden title on the tour on Sunday June 26, when he lifted the Travelers Championship title at TPC River Highlands. Jacobson
made a phenomenal run throughout the week and carded three bogey free opening rounds to summit the top of the $6million event.
"It's been haunting me," Jacobson said. "I've been on the board, I've been asked so many times from the kids, 'Did you get a trophy this week daddy? Did you get a trophy this week?' Nope, no trophy. So, I'm excited about that. I'm glad I'm not breaking that
promise for her."
Jacobson pulled in a fine round of four-under, 66 and aggregated a massive 20-under for the tournament to win the title. This was the biggest score for the season so far, which owed much to the length of the course at TPC River Highlands, the third-shortest
on the tour.
Jacobson's only bogey came at par-four, 10th where he had pulled two birdies in first and third rounds. He hit no less than 28 fairways with his rattling drives to overtake the strong field at the event.
"I was hitting so many fairways," said Jacobson. "It started clicking the end of last week. The last two days I struck the ball the best I ever have at the U.S. Open."
The 36-year-old switched over to playing on PGA Tour after his successive accomplishments at the European Tour, where he won three coveted titles. The aspiring Swede had a brilliant time at the Congressional last week where he finished tied for 14th
on the difficult US Open course.
Out of a total of 18 appearances, the Swede missed only three cuts on tour this season and his best results came at the Valero Texas Open this year when he finished for a joint fifth.
Jacobson not only bagged the winner's share of $1.08-million but has also earned 500 FedEx Cup points which will go a long way in establishing a career on the tour.
