Sweden’s Daniel Alfredsson happy to re-sign with Ottawa Senators and return for 17th NHL season
Sweden’s professional ice-hockey player and an National Hockey League (NHL) veteran, Daniel Alfredsson is very happy to re-sign with Ottawa Senators and return to play his 17th major league season as a player.
Alfredsson has one year remaining on his contract, worth $1 million and made the decision on Tuesday.
Reports were suggesting that Alfredsson would call it a day and hang up his skated but signed on board against all the odds because he does not think it is over yet and wants to play more.
While talking on a conference call from his native country Sweden, Alfredsson said that he had intention to play but it was necessary to go through all the process as he was not sure with himself if he was 100% and ready to give out his all because of his
back injury problems last year.
39-year-old forward also said that training has been going well for him and he has enjoyed it. He is also happy to be in process of getting ready for one more camp as he said,
"Training has been going well. I’ve really enjoyed it. I’m really happy I feel this way and I’m in the process of getting ready for another camp.”
The Gothenburg, Sweden born player also added that it was not completely his own decision as his wife and children also wanted him to play as they like to see him performing. His family would rather have been disappointed if he had quit.
Talking about his training, the 5-foot-11, 205 pounder thinks that he had a good week of training and felt strong and that he had his strengths as he also stated,
“I had a really good week of training. I felt strong and that’s the biggest thing: If I have my strength I know I can play and contribute. That kind of sealed it. I’ve probably had that feeling for awhile. My intention was to continue but I wanted to make
sure I could handle everything”.
Sweden’s international, gold medallist from 2006 Turin Winter Olympic Games, twice a silver and bronze medallist at World Championships, Alfredsson has played more than 1000 games in NHL and he is one of very few players with more than 1000 points in NHL
with, 416 goals, 666 assists and 1082 points.
