Sweden’s Peter Forsberg and Mats Sundin to be inducted into IIHF Hall of Fame with 3 other players
Former great Swedish players Peter Forsberg and Mats Sundin were announced to be inducted into Hall of Fame by International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) along with three other great players from the past.
The ceremony, which is to be held after the final of the 2013 IIHF World Championship in Stockholm, would witness the induction of former Swedish players who achieved so much for their home country in the past. Both of the players have been World and the
Olympic Champions for Sweden and have earned a lot of laurels for the Scandinavian country. The 2013 IIHF World Championship is to be held in May.
Forsberg is most famous player among all the new inductees as he left the world of hockey as player just last year and was one of the most phenomenal and consistent player of his time. He played NHL for a long period of time and represented the Colorado
Avalanche team throughout his NHL career.
The Örnsköldsvik, Sweden native had a great record in NHL as he played 708 games and scored 249 goals, 636 assists for a total of 885.
Another team that he represented many times in his career was Modo Sports in his native country and he is still working as the general manager of the same team.
The other three players include the two Canadians and one Finnish player, which are Paul Henderson, Danielle Goyette and Teppo Numminen respectively.
Paul Henderson was one of the best players of the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and Soviet Union; whereas Danielle Goyette has been a two time Olympic Champion for Canadian Ice Hockey Team.
Fifth player to be inducted into Hall of Fame, Finland’s Teppo Numminen has been a medallist at the Olympic Games for the three times, winning silver medal twice and bronze medal once.
Other than the five players, there are also two other people who are being rewarded for their services for the game. Jan-Ake Edvinsson of Sweden, the former general secretary of the IIHF was also chosen along with Gord Miller, a Canadian commentator of the
game.
