Swedish International: Carolina Marin crushes Matilda Petersen in Women’s Singles first round
Spain’s top player Carolina Marin found a perfect start in Women’s Singles first round when she trounced her local rival Matilda Petersen at Swedish International Stockholm 2013 in Sweden, on Friday, January 18.
The in-form Marin, who is the top seed in Women’s Singles main draw of the championship, played with remarkable speed and took just 24 minutes to wind up this battler in a lopsided manner.
Spanish lady was at her best speed on court as she took the bird early from all corners and toppled Matilda in straight sets with a crushing 21-11 and 21-7 score on the board.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Matilda tried her best to show aggression but failed to put up strong show at any stage and went down against her Spanish challenger in straight games with a humiliating margin.
Right from the starting points of first game, the higher ranked Marin took over the control of rallies. She was aggressive in her approach and remained successful in setting up an early lead.
The speed of the rallies was very fast in first set and the Spanish shuttler impressed local crowd with her tremendous craft on court.
Marin did not show any sign of confusion as she remained in complete command of the pace until the end of first half.
The match progressed in the similar manner after the mid-game interval as Marin did not lose her commanding position in the arena.
It was an uninterrupted ride for the in-form Marin who did not face any tough opposition from her rival and won the first game with a comfortable 21-11 difference on the board.
In the second game, Marin played with sound speed without sparing any room for Matilda to get a good flow.
The perfectly executed smashes and spinning net shots kept Marin ahead of her rival all the way until the end of first half in second game.
Marin was quick and positive on court in the concluding points of second set and won the second set with a stunning margin of 21-7 to seal off a spectacular victory in the opening round.
