Swedish International Stockholm 2012: Chan Yan Kit trounces Mathieu Lo Ying Ping in the first round
Hong Kong’s young shuttler, Chan Yan Kit, has advanced into Men’s Singles second round after taming Mathieu Lo Ying Ping of France in the first round of Swedish International Stockholm 2012 on Friday, January 20, in Sweden.
Yan Kit, who is currently number 37 in Men’s Singles world placements, played competitive badminton in the opening round and won the match in straight games. He took just 31 minutes of court time to register victory over the French opponent.
Ying Ping played well in the opening game but not enough to win it as his rival played well in the end and took it with a tight margin. In the second game, Yan Kit played to his maximum potential and ended it with a thrashing difference.
The Hong Kong shuttler was the favourite for this battle and the fans expected a one-sided match but Ying Ping made the fight interesting.
The French matched the speed and standard of his higher ranked opponent in the match and remained close in opening half of the game.
Yan Kit put variations in his strokes but could not dominate the game in concluding half of opening game. His rival was playing tremendous badminton and did not miss any chance to win the rallies.
Both shuttlers remained close until the score reached at the critical stage of 21-21, when Yan Kit played with aggression and manage to win the game with a 23-21 score on the board.
In the following set, both men played positive badminton in the opening points and the score reached at 3-3. At this stage, Yan Kit accelerated his speed in the back-court area and started to execute powerful smashes. His aggressions worked well and helped
him to manage a striking lead of 11-5 until the break.
In the second half, Yan Kit continued his roller-coaster play and maintained pressure on his rival. On the other hand, Ying Ping could not dominate the pace in this whole game and also made many mistakes.
Yan Kit did not face any trouble from Ying Ping in the second game and ended it in a thrashing fashion with a 21-10 score on the board. The final score of this Men’s Singles first-round clash was 23-21 and 21-10.
