Swedish International Stockholm 2012: Dicky Palyama eases into Men’s Singles second round
Netherland’s experienced shuttler, Dicky Palyama, has surged into Men’s Singles second round quite easily as he did not face any problem in beating Denmark’s Rasmus Fladberg in first round of the Swedish International Stockholm 2012, in Sweden, on Friday, January 20.
The World Number 47 Palyama, who has been struggling to get a good form for the last one year, played dominating badminton in his first match of the event and won it in a tremendous fashion.
The Dutch did not face any considerable problem from his Danish opponent in the whole match and won it in straight games. He consumed just 37 minutes in the court and eased into second round of the tournament.
The start of first set was interesting as both men played top class badminton and remained close. Palyama was composed and remained close to his Danish opponent who played attacking badminton.
Both shuttlers remained close but Palyama was the first to take a reasonable lead until the end of first half by reaching 11-8.
However, after the break, Fladberg accelerated his speed and played killing game from all areas of the court. He played positive badminton and levelled the score at 14-14.
At this stage, both players remained close until the ending points when Palyama showed his impressive skills and bagged the game with a decent score of 21-17.
In the second set, Fladberg employed his experience and managed to dominate the rallies in opening half. His powerful smashes landed in gaps and he remained in complete control of pace and managed to reach at 11-6.
Palyama could not stop his Danish challenger in the first half but he played better badminton in the second half. He executed parallel strokes and did not lift the bird high in the air which helped him to push his rival on back foot.
The positive and aggressive play of the higher ranked Dutch shuttler spared no room for Fladberg to dominate rallies anymore. Palyama levelled the score at 13-13 and continued his planned badminton in the whole set.
The Dutch employed his elevated skills in the concluding phase of second set and clinched it with a decent margin of 21-18. He won this interesting contest in 37 minutes with a 21-17 and 21-18 score on the board.
