Swedish International Stockholm: Kai Waldenberger ousts Murat Sen in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Germany’s Kai Waldenberger advances into next stage of Men’s Singles qualifying round after beating the higher ranked Murat Sen of Turkey in his first encounter at the 2012 Swedish International Stockholm, on Thursday, January 19, in Sweden.
The un-seeded Waldenberger proved his mettle against Murat, who was the fifth seed in the Men’s Singles qualifying round. German shuttler took 42 minutes in the court to chuck out his Turkish rival in an entertaining rubber-set contest and advanced into
the final stage of qualifying round.
Murat played aggressive badminton in the opening set and took it without taking much pain. However, in the following both games, he failed to dominate the pace of rallies and lost the match in three games.
Waldenberger opened his campaign in an attacking way but failed to take lead as his rival was focused in the game.
Murat played with precision and manipulated the loop poles of his lower ranked German opponent. He was leading the game with a margin of 11-5 until the break.
After the break, Waldenberger became quicker at net and started to reduce the deficit but his rival also played positive game in the concluding phase of first set. Waldenberger lost the game with a six-point difference of 15-21.
In the following set, Waldenberger did not let his challenger to dominate the pace as he remained quicker in all areas of the court and earned many points by executing powerful smashes on side lines of court. However, Murat also played well and remained
close until the break in second game.
After the break, the German controlled the pace and troubled his higher ranked rival by playing flawless badminton at net. He remained successful in finishing the second game with a reasonable 21-17 margin on the score board.
In the final set, Waldenberger established his domination over the pace of rallies and remained ahead of his opponent from the opening points.
He did not let Murat to level the score in the entire set and ended it with a striking score of 21-15.
Waldenberger ended this Men’s Singles qualifying-round battle in 42 minutes with a margin of 15-21, 21-17 and 21-15.
