Swedish International Stockholm: Kasper Dinesen topples Christian Boesiger in qualifying round clash
Denmark’s upcoming player, Kasper Dinesen, has stunned the higher ranked Christian Boesiger of Switzerland in Men’s Singles qualifying-round contest at the Swedish International Stockholm 2012 on Thursday, January 19, in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Danish played to his maximum speed and manage to overpower Boesiger, who was the seventh seed in the Men’s Singles draw in qualifying round. The impressive performance of Dinesen helped him to penetrate into main round of the event.
Boesiger was the favourite in this match but got surprised from the lower ranked rival who played tremendous badminton. Dinesen worked really hard for 47 minutes and got the prize by winning a thrilling three-set battle.
The opening set was a nightmare for the Danish as the higher ranked Boesiger thrashed him without showing any respect. Dinesen could not control the pace of rallies and also committed numerous mistakes.
On the other hand, Boesiger remained on track in the whole set and kept his rival under pressure. Dinesen lost the opening game without showing any resistance by a stunning difference of 7-21.
In the second game, Dinesen took a good lead at the early stage but the Swiss shuttler improved his play and levelled the score before the end of first half. The score was close until the 60-second break as both shuttlers were toe-to-toe.
After the break, the score progressed equally until the ending phase when Dinesen played attacking and positive game and managed to take the set with a reasonable 21-18 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Dinesen again played well in the opening set and remained ahead of his rival. He was in complete control of rallies and established a comfortable lead of 17-13. At this stage, Boesiger changed his tactics and manage four consecutive
points to level the score at 17-17.
At this critical stage, Dinesen proved his mettle by scoring four points in a row to end the game with a 21-17 score on the board. The final result of this three-set encounter was 7-21, 21-18 and 21-17.
In the main round, Dinesen will face Sweden’s Mathias Wigardt, who has also overpowered all of his opponents in the Men’s Singles qualifying round.
