Swedish International Stockholm: Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork claim Mixed Doubles title
England’s experienced players, Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork, have claimed Mixed Doubles title after crushing Denmark’s Mads Pieler Kolding and Julie Houmann in the final showdown of Swedish International Stockholm 2012, in Sweden, on Sunday, January
22.
The World Number 22 Robertson and Wallwork, who were the second seeds in the Mixed Doubles draw of the tournament, played to their maximum potential and won their first title in current year.
The English couple did not show any mercy to Danish shuttlers and won the final contest in straight games by taking just 38 minutes in the court.
On the final day of the event, Robertson and Wallwork were in smashing form as they remained in complete control and displayed their elevated skills and bagged the title in an emphatic fashion.
The English duo started the opening set in an elevated way as they dictated the pace of rallies while remaining composed in the court. On the other hand, the Danish couple failed to play positive badminton as they executed many negative strokes which helped
their rivals to take a reasonable lead.
Robertson and Wallwork were focused in the game as they did not make any mistake and set up an impressive lead of 11-7 until the one-minute interval in the starting game of this final battle.
After the break, Danish shuttlers played aggressive game and also remained positive but their rivals were far ahead on points table. Robertson and Wallwork did not slow the pace of rallies and managed to win the set with a reasonable margin of 21-17.
In the following game, Robertson and Wallwork started their run in an incredible way as they took six points in a row to reach at 6-0.
The Danish couple was clearly lacking the speed in their strokes and remained trailing behind their higher ranked English rivals at 5-11.
Robertson and Wallwork played remarkable badminton in the entire second game and did not let their Danish opponents to level the score at any stage. They ended the second set in an authoritative manner with a 21-17 score on the board.
The English couple won this final fight in an inspiring manner with a superb score of 21-17 and 21-17.
