Swedish International Stockholm: Pi Hongyan crushes Kristina Gavnholt to bag Women’s Singles title
France’s top seeded female shuttler, Pi Hongyan, has finally got her winning form back as she has bagged Women’s Singles title at the Swedish International Stockholm 2012 on Sunday, January 22, in Sweden.
In the title match, the higher ranked French lady out played Kristina Gavnholt of Czech Republic and stamped her supremacy in a striking fashion.
The World Number 23 Pi Hongyan, who has been working really hard for the last six months to find a good flow, has finally got success as she has won the first title of current year.
The French shuttler, who was the second seed in Women’s Singles world standings, played to her maximum potential and ended the final fight in straight games by spending just 35 minutes in the court.
Kristina was completely helpless against the power-play of her higher ranked opponent and lost the final contest without impressing the crowd.
In the first game, both ladies played positive badminton and remained close in the first half. Kristina was just behind her rival but failed to level the score even for a single time.
Until the break in the first set, the French managed a comfortable lead over her lower ranked opponent by reaching at 11-7.
After the one-minute interval, Kristina became slow which helped her French opponent to stretch her lead. On the other hand, Hongyan did not miss this chance to extend the gap and remained successful in winning the first game with a wonderful score of 21-13.
In the following set, Hongyan again started to play dominating badminton from the starting points. However, Kristina also played better game this time and remained close to her rival in the first few points.
The second seeded Hongyan increased her speed and played attacking game to take a comfortable lead of 11-6 until the one-minute break in the second game.
After the break, Kristina changed her strategy and started to play parallel game but it was too late as her opponent was far ahead on points table.
Hongyan remained positive in the whole set and won it with a margin of 21-17. She emerged as the winner of this Women’s Singles final match with a 21-13 and 21-17 score on the board.
