Swedish International Stockholm: Pi Hongyan hammers Karina Jorgensen in quarter-final showdown
France’s ace shuttler, Pi Hongyan, has reserved her berth in Women’s Singles semi-final as she has hammered Denmark’s Karina Jorgensen in quarter-final showdown of the Swedish International Stockholm 2012, in Sweden, on Saturday, January 21.
Hongyan, who is currently World Number 23 and second seed in Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, displayed phenomenal performance and bagged the quarter-final battle against the lower ranked Danish shuttler without facing any resistance.
The higher ranked French lady showed her elevated skills by playing dominating badminton in the whole contest and ended it in straight games by taking just 26 minutes in the court.
Right from the start of first game, Hongyan did not waste any time in setting up a wonderful lead. She played with aggression and precision to dominate the pace of rallies and managed a superb lead of 11-3 until the interval.
Karina tried to take the bird early but failed to dominate the pace as her rival was playing with variations. On the other hand, Hongyan continued playing controlled badminton in second half of the opening game and injected more power in her strokes.
The French shuttler employed her extensive experience against the lower ranked Danish rival and remained successful in finishing the first game with a tremendous 21-6 score on the aboard.
In the second game, Karina played somewhat better badminton in the first few rallies but failed to take any lead as her rival was in complete control of the game.
Hongyan was focused and composed in the court and took a remarkable lead of 11-3 until the break without facing any problem.
After the break, Karina played aggressive badminton and remained successful in reducing the difference by reaching at 5-11. However, she could not dominate the rallies anymore as her higher ranked rival started to play fast badminton.
Hongyan continued her positive run in the second set and did not face any problem in ending it with an impressive margin of 21-13. This Women’s Singles quarter-final clash ended in just 26 minutes with a one-sided score of 21-6 and 21-13.
In the semi-final contest, Hongyan will be up against Germany’s Karin Schnaase, who defeated the fourth seed, Larisa Griga of Ukraine, in another quarter-final encounter.
