My school is planning on doing Sweeney Todd for our play this year. How much are the royalties? If your school put on a production of Sweeney Todd, how much did it cost?

  1. Sweeny Todd??? For a school play??? that is absoultely HORRIBLE!!! But whatever, the royalties for my school play (Beauty and the Beast) were between 3,000 and 5,000 dollars american

  2. WHOA! wait a min. SCHOOL PLAY!?!... Sweeney Todd. Do I have to say more...? (9 dollars to get in is what my school charges for a play)

  3. I believe there have been theatrical versions of Sweeny Todd for over a century.- since 1847, in fact.  I think it would be very difficult to do the Sondheim musical version, but one of the earlier versions might do quite well, be inexpensive, and may have no royalties associated with it.

It could be quite a hoot to do as an old fashioned mellowdrama.

  4. Despite what everyone else says, I think it would be freaking awesome to do Sweeney Todd for a school play. xD Hey, some schools have done Rent, anything can happen these days.

I have no idea how much the royalties would be. Doesn't the school deal with that? xP

  5. Sweeney Todd is difficult but I have seen successful school productions before.  Royalties are usually a percentage of your box office take, rather than a fixed amount; when you apply for rights, they'll ask you questions about how many shows you're doing, how many people in the audience, how much you're charging for admission etc etc.
