So at yesterdays appointment i was dilated 2 and a half cm. and effaced 50%. The doctor said that if i efface more by next weeks appointment she will do a membrane sweep.

My questions are..Did you get one done? how many weeks were you? how many cm were you? did it work(if so after how long)? and did it hurt.

add on any info about it that you like or just tell me your experience.

  1. I had it done at 38 and at 39 weeks... didn't work either time.  It was very painful for me... might be different for other people.  I wasn't dialated at all.  I also tried castor oil the same night as my 39 week membrane sweep (I was desperate)... that didn't work either.

I went into labour naturally at 39 weeks 6 days.

  2. I just had one done yesterday and im 39 weeks 2 days. Im not sure if it worked yet because it can take up to 48 hours and its only been about 24 so far. For me it hurt ALOT! thats mainly because she had to reach wayyyy in there and it was more of a pressure pain because my babys head is so low

  3. i was dilated to 2 cm and 50 % effaced and had them stripped, i was 38 weeks it didn't hurt that bad just lots of pressure. nothing really happened i went back at 39 weeks and i was dilated to 2 1/2 and still 50 % effaced so she stripped them again and still nothing happened. now i am over 40 weeks and will be induced on tuesday if i don't go before then. i hear it works well for some people good luck and congrats

  4. My Bestfriend had it done with her first child, she was dilated to 2 cm as well when they did it. She said that it did hurt, a lot and she had pretty harsh bleeding afterwards but she went into labor the same night!!

    Good luck and congrats :)

  5. Well with my first, I was about 2cm dilated at 38 weeks...they did a membrane sweep, and it did nothing....but it did hurt like c**p to me!! With my second, I was 3cm almost 4cm at my 38 weeks appointment and again, had my membranes swept, and it did nothing again....LOL. I guess I just didnt have good luck with it!! :(

  6. I had it done with my last pregnancy.  I was 39 weeks 2 days when I had it done.  I was 3 cm dilated and 60% effaced.  It didn't hurt much more than a cervical check.  It worked like a charm; I went into labor about 30 hours after having it done.

    Good luck!

  7. i am wondering the same thing... i am 37weeks had an apt yesterday and i am 2cm dilated and 50% effaced my doctor said she would a sweep next week also as long i efface more so i am taking evening primrose oil to help soften my cervix... Sorry i cant answer your question tho i heard most people go into labor a few hours after having it done and i also hear it hurts... but i dont know from experience

  8. i had it done at 39 weeks and i was 2cm dialated and 50 percent effaced.

it didnt do anything for me. it wasnt painful at all, the doctor swiped a gloved finger across my cervix and that was it.
