Sweet Marini to miss her expected start in the Soviet Problem Stakes
The 2-year-old gray/roan filly by Marino Marini, Sweet Marini, impressed one and all after her impressive debut victory, when she defeated maidens at Santa Anita Park on 4 November, 2012, going 6 furlongs on the dirt track.
The maiden impressed owner Kaleem Shah, and he recently bought Sweet Marini privately, and sent her to Bob Baffert’s string, where the veteran horseman will trainer her and point at races.
Her expected start under the colours of new connections was halted because of the present of mucous. She was pointed at the $200,000 Soviet Problem Stakes for 2-year-old California bred fillies.
“She was coughing, and I had to treat her with antibiotics,” he said.
“She’s not going to run on Sunday. Hopefully, we can make the next race.”
Out of In Excess mare Excessing, Sweet Marini was going to head the field of the newly created Soviet Problem Stakes, but in her absence, unbeaten in two starts, Home Journey, is expected to be the favourite to win the race.
Home Journey is trained by trainer Michael Puype, and the juvenile filly will make her stakes debut in the Soviet Problem Stakes.

with one for fillies along with an open division.
