I believe so. I'm not sure of the health reasons, but my father is a diabetic, and he eats sweet potato instead of the standard potato, as the sweet potato doesnt affect his levels.

Sweet potatoes contain powerful antioxidants that you don't find in the common regular potato so they are more nutritious.  Antioxidants help to slow down the aging process and reduce your chances of gettin cancer.  The more antioxidants you get the better.

The fact that they taste very sweet is OK as they are complex carbohydrates that don't give you cavities.   The really bad carbohydrate is the simple carbohydrate sucrose which is table sugar, white sugar or refined sugar and that is the killer sugar that gives you cavities and lots of other problems.

"Sweet potato" covers a very wide range of tubers, including the many kinds of yams from all over the world and the New Zealand kumara, among others. so I would hesitate to make a blanket statement.

I doubt they will encourage cavities, especially if you observe basic oral hygeine and brush your teeth, or at least rinse your mouth, after every meal.
