im going to my best friends sweet 16,her parents are really strict so she couldnt come to my little get together...she is having an big indian sweet 16,b/c she is indian..and its with 45 of her family members and 5 school friends..

is it okay to give her money and not a gift?

Money in and of itself is a little tacky. Try an American Express gift-card, or maybe a gift-card to a place she enjoys shopping, like American Eagle or Barnes & Nobles.

i always give money cause it's easier

make sure you put it in a  card

i've never heard of giving someone money as being tacky before?
