Does anybody know what its the difference chemically between sweets and cereal/pastas/breads, because chemically they are both carbohydrates, but I don't know what its the difference, why are sweets bad for you, but bread and pasta aren't...I think it has to do with the amounts of carbohydrates in each one, since sweets have more sugar that would mean that the amount is more, but I don't understand?

  1. Saying sweets are bad for you but starches are good is an overgeneralization.  The reason the different forms are better or worse for us is because our bodies are designed to utilize the different molecules in different ways.  Sugars are in a form that is easy to utilize the energy rapidly, whereas complex carbs like beans metabolize much more slowly.  Each has its place, depending on what the body's needs are.
