Question:

Swelling under arm ?

I have swelling near and under my right armpit and occasional pain. I went to my doctor and they referred me out for an ultrasound. An ultrasound revealed I had a small cyst, a subsequent MRI revealed that the cyst was benign (my mother died of breast cancer so they wanted to rule out cancer). The pain seems to have gotten worse and so has the swelling, I have a follow up appointment with my doctor scheduled for a week and a half but I'm not sure on what my next course of action should be. Thanks everyone.

  1. Your cyst might be infected. I think it's best to call your doctor and ask if it's advisable to see him sooner than as scheduled.

  2. I don't want to scare you because you're already scared enough.  Don't take the doctor's diagnosis as final but get a second opinion.  It could be the difference between life and death.

You should have the cyst removed and analyzed to make sure it's what you were told.  My sister had a painful, swollen "cyst" under her left arm.  It kept growing and, one morning she awoke with a swollen arm and hand as well.  She had it removed and learned she had a fast growing type of cancer.  Within 8 months she died and left 2 babies that were still in diapers.

You may not want to have the cyst removed but, since it is causing you pain, it's best that you do.  At least, when it's out, you will know you are fine and the incision will heal in a few short days.  Then you won't have that thing to worry about anymore.

  3. seems there is an infection ,call your doctor and speak to him ,the cyst seems to be inflammed
