Swift Lewis speeds to Stayers success
Belle Vue presented a series of races last night including the Belle Vue Stayers, the Belle Vue Maiden, and a couple of Standard Division races.
Belle Vue Stayers
It was Swift Lewis winning the Stayers by ¾ lengths over Nightfall Angel. The pack was tight from the traps until the third bend when Romeo Chieftain took the lead, but he was only able to hold it until
the sixth bend when Lewis took the lead for good. Chieftain ended up in third place.
Slick Sapphire, the 5-4 race favourite, did little to inspire as she finished in fourth place, 3 ¾ lengths back of Chieftain. In fifth was 16-1 longshot, Tursdale Jake, and in sixth was Sherrys No Joke.
Belle Vue Maiden
The Maiden saw the 11-10 race favourite, Fatboyz Georgie, get beat out on the first bend by Gaytime Mal. With the two battling for position from the traps, Georgie checked, giving Mal the chance to get
ahead. Mal then extended the lead, winning the race by 4 ½ lengths. Georgie did manage to hang on to second, taking it by 2 ½ lengths over Karma Ollie.
Brickfield Snow finished in fourth place, just ¾ lengths behind Ollie. Well behind in fifth was Russanada Razl, and in last place was Ballymac Codie.
Belle Vue Standard Division 2
The Division 2 Standard was won by Mercurial Star, who took the lead on the second bend, and beat Global Hope by 2¼ lengths.
Second place saw a tight finish as Hope managed to stay ahead of Tuttles Maldini by ½ a length. Maldini was racing wide after starting from the sixth trap, and while he couldn’t quite catch Hope, he did
stay ahead of Owlett Buster to take third place by a head.
In fifth was Rackethall Jenny, who finished well back of the pack. Colliery Lass stumbled on the first bend and did not finish the race.
Belle Vue Standard Division 1
The Division 1 Standard was the only Belle Vue series race to see a race favourite win. Peggys Way took the lead on the second bend, and the race by 1½ lengths over Droopys Ruso. Razldazl Dazl looked good
from the traps after getting off to the best start of the group, but couldn’t hold off Peggys and Ruso, and finished in third.
In fourth was Wally Billy, who managed to get ahead of Little Sensation and Colliery Lad after the three lost ground on the first bend. Sensation and Lad had trouble again on the second bend, this time
with Lad stumbling, just like his littermate Colliery Lass did in the Division 2 Standard.
