Okay. I am thinking about swimming and have some questions.

One: Should I do a summer league to prepare for high school? I am going to be a sophmore.

Two: How do I ask my parents?

Three: What times are good?

I haven't swam competetively since fourth grade.

Thanks!

  1. I Swim and i am second in wales for my age. and i think its really good your thinking about starting swimming!

It is a good way to improve your fitness & its unbelieveable the difference in your fitness after just a few months.

it is one of the sports though that is tough, + training isnt easy i must warn you.

So if you are thinking of starting competitivly do not think its going to be an easy ride.

    Times..

well for 50 meters frontcrawl i do 29.5

    and for 50 meters backcrawl i do a 33.6

    Good luck!

  2. one: it wouldnt be completely neccessary but it would help you a lot

two: just ask them. like mom and dad i was thinking about how i miss swimming. do you think i could try it again next year?

three: good times depend on the person. a good 50 free time would be under 24. but that doesnt mean that if you dont have that then youre bad.

  3. Good on you.  Swimming is a sport that you can do for the rest of your life, either competitive or just for fitness, and it saves lives too.  Give yourself an edge and start early, that will help any stroke correction you need since 4th grade.  I'm sure your parents will be proud that you want to improve your fitness and get involved with a swim club.  Swimming certainly has many advantages, and it will help with your studies.  Your times will improve the more you swim, so don't be too hard on yourself to start with.  These will depend on your current fitness and age, but my 12yo daughter loves her swim club and does a 33.04 50m free and a 37.80 50m back.  Good luck.

  4. 1) Yes, joining a summer program is the BEST way to prepare for high school swim season. Also, it'll give you the best idea of what swimming in high school is like (usually it's a little more laid back in the summer).

    2) Just tell them. Most parents are thrilled their child wants to join a team. If they won't let you and there isn't a really good reason (you have health problems or something) then they are pretty bad parents and you need to have a sit down talk with them.

    3) Times are all relative. After your first summer, a good time in the 50 free would be around 26.00. The fastest I've ever seen someone swim after only a few months is about 25.50.

Shoot for under a minute in the 100 free. And try to find at least one stroke your good at. If your good at all four, I feel bad for you, you'll have to swim the 200 IM in high school.
