I want to start swimming....I usually try doing 5 laps, then take a break, then another, then another break, etc until I get to about 25. What's a good routine or pattern to get into good shape?

  1. usually i try to do like 8 laps...and then rest and do some kicking, arms, technique or drill work.

and then use those skills in another 8 laps afterwards :]

  2. What you are doing is good. But here are some more things you can try.

Start of doing 5 your five laps of the pool as a warm up.

Then do 10 laps of the pool with 30 seconds rest between each lap.

Then do as many laps as you can do when you finish.

Over time as your fitness increases increase the amount of laps, or increase length of the distance swam so e.g 2 laps then 30 seconds break

  3. what you are doing is fine.  also try to do more than 5 laps at a time without stopping

  4. how long is the pool?? If it is a 25 yd pool then i suggest u just keep on doing your thing!!!!!!!!! because 25 laps is a 625 and that is a good to do in like a day!!!!!!!!! so any way i am sure if you keep it up you'll get in good shape!!!!! Keep on Swimming!!!

    Peace out!!!!!!!!

  5. What you are doing is good and you will feel better in the water the more often you do your 25 laps.  Increasing the distance before taking a break and/or reducing the amount of rest will strengthen your swimming too.  You could also add in a fast lap and get your time, different strokes or kicking to get a better feel for the water and increase your endurance.  Challenge yourself to get to 100 laps without a break within 3 months or another goal to help stay motivated and guide your swimming.  Look into a swim team if you want to learn from a professional who will guide you in the latest stroke technique as well as put together practices.
