Swimmers and other water babies do you have trouble this time of year staying warm enough?

to work out in the pool and/or swim laps.

During the warm summer months I have no problem adjusting to the water temp. During the late fall/winter after the air heaters are turned on I have no trouble. However in the early fall and late spring my body thermostat seems to be crazy. It will not adjust. My calves tend to cramp. I know the problem is worse since I have lost weight... I no longer have my bludder for insulation :)

If you have had any luck solving this problem let me know.

  1. I don't know where you swim but I solved this same problem back when I used to regularly swim at my gym (I used to get calf cramps, too).  I would either spend about 5 minutes in the sauna before changing into my suit or soak in the hot spa (easier at my gym since it was right beside the pool.)  I would do leg stretches while in the hot water, too.  Once my body core temp got good and hot I had no trouble in the pool -- in fact, it felt refreshing to dive in and I never had cramp problems.  This might help if you've got either of those available.  If you don't, doing more leg warm-ups poolside before diving in could help too.

  2. well i'm quite a big person but i love wind surfing and whne the water is to cold 4 me i borow my friends long wetsuit (it keeps my legs and arms rosty tosty)

  3. Well depends where you live, but you can easily get a wetsuit at any surf shop to fit you quite well, prices range depending on style and thickness,You would want a full wetsuit to cover your calves. you might be able to find a used one from a friend who surfs or wakeboards or jetskies during the winter months. Once get in the water, it will be very cold but the insulation inside the wetsuit will trap the water between the wetsuit and your skin and will warm it up to close to skin temperatue (before you go into shock..lol).

Used wetsuits to buy are hard to find because people dont usually toss them. However the best place to get one is from a teenager that is growing, you might make a sweet deal with him or her.

You can get a custom made wetsuit, but they are like 2 times the price of one in stock and you will have to get measured at the shop, and wait for it (usuall kinda long wait) to come back from the factory.I would only advise getting a custom wetsuit only if you dont think you are NOT going to grow anymore
