Swimmers impress at the 2011 Santa Clara International Invitational: Day 4 - Recap
FAST’s swimmer, Ariana Kukors impressed the arena on the fourth and final day of the 2011 Santa Clara International Invitational. Kukors snatched the Women’s 200m Individual Medley crown after she touched the finishing wall with a record time of 2 minutes
and 09.53 seconds.
Securing second spot in the respective race was Australian swimmer, Stephanie Rice with a time of 2 minutes and 11.39 seconds, while Caitlin Leverenz nabbed bronze title in 2 minutes and 13.24 seconds.
In the Women’s 200m butterfly final, Longhorn’s swimmer, Kathleen Hersey clinched the golden crown with a fastest time of 2 minutes and 06.89 seconds. Placed second in the corresponding race was Stephanie Rice with a victorious time of 2 minutes and 07.54
seconds. Stanford’s swimmer, Elaine Breeden snared bronze title with a time of 2 minutes and 08.14 seconds.
After capturing silver title in the Women’s 200m butterfly final, Rice moved to the 10th spot in the international swimming rankings.
In the Men’s 200m butterfly final, Nick D’Arcy of Australia claimed the golden crown against the Olympic champion, Michael Phelps with a victorious time of 1 minute and 55.39 seconds. Phelps took home silver crown in that race with a time of 1 minute and
55.40 seconds.
With this impressive performance, D’Arcy has improved to 5th spot, while Phelps has moved to 4th place in the world rankings. Capturing bronze medal in the swim was Stanford’s swimmer, Bobby Bollier with a time of 1 minute and 57.92
seconds.
In the Men’s 100m breast-stroke final, Brendan Hansen of Longhorn took home the golden crown with a record time of 1 minute and 01.66 seconds. Meanwhile, Eric Shanteau of Trojan clinched silver title with a time of 1 minute and 01.54 seconds and his teammate,
Mike Alexandrov captured bronze in a time of 1 minute and 02.05 seconds.
Earlier, Trojan’s swimmer, Eric Shanteau snagged the Men’s 100m breast-stroke prelims with a winning time of 1 minute and 01.37 seconds.
