Swimmers impress at the European SC Swimming Championships 2012 – Part 12
After the dazzling performance of Vladimir Morozov, the expectations of the audience continue to elevate. With only two events left to conclude the session, French veteran, Laure Manaudou along with other finalists of the Women’s 50m backstroke were escorted
to the starting blocks.
After securing the fastest qualification spot in the playoff, Manaudou looked much confident on the starting blocks, as she wanted to live up to the expectations of her supporters by securing the title.
Manaudou faced tough contest from her following swimmers in the 50m race, but with her notable form, she managed to reach the top of medal rostrum for gold medal with a timing of 26.78 seconds.
Her notable form remained 1.08 seconds ahead of the European and world record of 25.70 seconds, held by Sanja Jovanovic of Croatia in 2009.
Manaudou was chased by the defending champion and world record holder, Jovanovic, who was marginally slower from her and touched the wall for silver medal by clocking an effort of 26.84 seconds.
Third spot of the race was obtained by Czech Republic’s Simona Baumrtova, who completed the podium by clocking a time of 26.97 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Italian expert, Arianna Barbieri, who was only an inch behind and surfaced on the wall for fourth position by clocking an effort of 26.98 seconds.
Moments later, Fabio Scozzoli dominated the playoff of Men’s 50m breaststroke. The Italian swimmer smothered hopes of his opponents as he occupied gold medal of the race by producing an effort of 26.18 seconds.
His commendable effort remained only 0.07 seconds away from his own European record of 26.11 seconds, owned by Scozzoli from 2011. He was also 0.04 seconds away from the meet record of 26.14 seconds, owned by Italy’s Alessandro Terrin from 2009.
Scozzoli also remained almost a second slower from the world record of South African swimmer, Cameron van der Burgh, who clocked 25.25 seconds in 2009.
Second position of the race was obtained by Norwegian swimmer, Aleksander Hetland, who secured silver medal by submitting a time of 26.20 seconds.
Hetland remained just an inch faster from Slovenian swimmer, Damir Dugonjic, who finished third in the race by posting a time of 26.24 seconds.
Similarly, Dugonjic remained marginally ahead of France’s Florent Manaudou, who settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder by reporting a time of 26.29 seconds.
