Swimmers make an impression in Belgrade - 2011 European Long Course Junior Championships
The 2011 European Long Course Junior Championships ended with several entertaining performances in Belgrade, Serbia, on Sunday, July 10.
Maxym Shemberyev of Ukraine won the gold medal in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley, whereas, Mie Nielsen of Denmark clinched victory in the Women’s 100m back-stroke meet. Christian Scheruebl snared the Men’s 200m freestyle meet, while Siobhan-Marie O'Connor
snagged the Women’s 200m IM and Velimir Stjepanovic won the Men’s 100m butterfly.
Initially, Shemberyev nabbed the Men’s 400m Individual Medley title with a winning time of 4 minutes and 16.94 seconds. More importantly, Maxym beat Gergo Kis’s previous record of 4 minutes and 16.82 seconds, which he set back in 2006.
Eduardo Solaeche Gomez of Spain wound up second in the respective meet in a time of 4 minutes and 20.36 seconds. Dan Wallace of Great Britain captured the third spot on the podium in 4 minutes and 20.60 seconds.
In the Women’s 100m back-stroke meet, Mie Nielsen earned the first place honours in 1 minute and 02.50 seconds. Jessica Fullalove of Great Britain wound up second in1 minute and 02.75 seconds, whereas, Lidon Munoz Del Campo of Spain rounded out the top three
in 1 minute and 03.15 seconds.
The Men’s 200m freestyle relay crown was taken over by Christian Scheruebl of Austria in a time of 1 minute and 49.51 seconds. Daniel Skaaning of Denmark wound up second in 1 minute and 49.56 seconds, while Pawel Werner of Poland snared the third spot in
1 minute and 49.93 seconds. Ieuan Lloyd earned fourth place honours in a time of 1 minute and 49.96 seconds.
Siobhan-Marie O'Connor captured the Women’s 200m IM title in 2 minutes and 14.71 seconds, whereas, Sara Joo of Hungary wound up second in 2 minutes and 16.34 seconds. Anastasia Sineva of Russia settled third in a time of 2 minutes and 16.44 seconds.
After the corresponding race, O’Connor was really pleased with her individual performance in the national junior competitions.
Velimir Stjepanovic won the Men’s 100m butterfly title with a winning time of 53.79 seconds. Yevgen Koptyelov of Ukraine wound up second in 53.94 seconds, while Martino Lucatello of Italy settled third in time of 53.96 seconds. The fourth place went to Yahor
Dodaleu of Belarus in 53.98 seconds.
The Men’s 400m medley relay crown was captured by the Italian swimmers including Niccolo Bonacchi, Martion Lucatello, Roberto Parisi and Giacomo Ferri in a time of 3 minutes and 42.01 seconds. Meanwhile, Germany’s squad earned silver in 3 minutes and 42.57
seconds, while Russia wound up third in a time of 3 minutes and 42.82 seconds.
The crowd was amazed with the wonderful performances of all the competitors in their respective events of the meet.
