Question:

Swimming 2 weeks postpardum?

took my 2 year old to his swim lessons today at the local pool. My mother and neighbor both made comments to me that it is bad that I went so close after giving birth.

I didn't have any tears and my bleeding has stopped already. I also had two salt/herbal baths right after giving birth recommended by my midwife. So, that's why I figured it wouldn't be a big deal.

Can anyone tell me what the danger is?

  1. If you aren't bleeding at all (don't want to contaminate the pool or wear a tampon at this point), it should be OK to be in the water as long as you aren't actually swimming.  It is a bit too early for that.

There is a slight risk of infection, but it it very minimal considering how chlorinated public pools are.

Fresh water isn't as good of an idea because of the bacteria though.

Just keep in mind that you just gave birth, so you need to take it easy.  Also take cues from your baby.  If he/she doesn't like the scent of the chlorine or if he/she doesn't want to eat because it is on your b*****s (assuming you're breastfeeding), you may want to reconsider.

    God bless,

  2. there is none... unless ur MD told you not to... it's almost like a taboo... if you can take a bath and ur not bleeding its fine to get into a pool

  3. Bacteria can increase risk of infection if your cervix isn't closed.
