Question:

Swimming: How many lengths to start off with?

It's been a few months since I last went swimming and I'm wanting a plan which starts off easy, with a low amount of lengths (25 metre pool) and gradually increases as time goes on, so that I'm eventually doing like 40+ lengths every time I go.

Can anybody advise or know of a nice day by day plan I could follow?

The last time I was swimming I stuck at it for a few weeks and people who commenting how good I looked - that was only after a few sessions as well!

Please note: I can only do breast stroke and due to a joint condition, some days I might not feel up to doing anything - but i'm sure there's a plan I could devise which works very well for pretty much anybody to gradually get stronger, lose excess fat, get toned, and increase lung capacity etc, at a nice steady pace - nothing like a quick fix or anything like that.

  2. Try this website.

You'll need to register and I think, from memory, you have to record some times for some short course swims, but all you do is input your requriements and they offer plans from beginner to advanced.

    Hope this helps.

  3. I am on a swim team, this is my 3rd year.  This is a great way to build endurance and strength!: It's called a ladder. you start with a very short length and increase by 50 meters. So, swim a 50, then a 100, then a 150. You can go as high as you want, but you also have to go down, too. So once you get to 150 meters, go back to a 100, then a 50 again. Try to do each set without stopping.  The next day try a different stroke, or increase your ladder a little bit. (Depending on your pace and ladder, it will only take from 15-25 minutes...) Good luck, hope this helps!!

BTW, I am mercedesgal63's daughter. She just let me answer this one question! :D
