  1. Where I teach private lessons are $50 an hour. Most people sign up for 30 minute sessions. It's much cheaper to take semi-private or group lessons ($40 and $30 respectively). I wish it wasn't so expensive, but I don't set the lesson price.

How long it takes to learn to swim depends on how willing you are to work at it and what "risks" you are willing to take. It can take a day and it can take a couple months.

  2. I can teach you how to float! I charge $11-$13 an hour and do 4 lessons per session. It is different for everyone on how long it will take you to float( it could take a day..or it could take weeks for you. It really depends on what you are willing to do). Here is how I teach my students how to do a backfloat:

    1) When you lay back in the water make sure you arch your back or( as I tell them) stick your tummy up as if there is a big watermelon in it.

    2)  Tip your head back just far enough so all of your hair and your hairline is wet and underwater.

#) If you are not floating on your back by now, raise your arms over your ehad( but keep them in the water). If this doesn't help you float, bend your knees slowly up toward your stomach until you feel yourself floating. We are all bouyant, just some of us are more bouyant than others and we all have different points of bouyancy. Email me if you need more tips on this, I got tons.

  3. Teaching how to float should be accomplished in 1 lesson.  Axelkitt has a good answer except for the part of having the arms above the head, that is harder, do not do this.  Arms can be by your side or on the stomach.

It works best to do a back glide into a back float.  Hold onto the wall both hands shoulder width apart, feet planted on wall, tip head back so ears are in the water,  let go extend legs out slowly, do not kick, arch back

To learn how to swim takes 6-10 lessons 1:1 for a beginner.  This should be front float, back float, tread water, sit dive, roll over, rotary breathing front crawl, jump in get air and swim to the side

For private lessons it varies greatly and can be 10-$30/per lesson for 30min private

  4. just lay there face down
