Swimming Pool Help!?

We have an older pool.Cartridge filter. We've been maintaining it since we moved in 6 months ago. However,I have a new problem. After an algae kill off I used a flocculant to help it float to bottom and vaccumed it up.It worked, but now when I vaccum we notice that everything we vaccum is coming back in thru the jets??? we had a wind storm that blew off some little black seed looking things from our trees a few days ago & when I vaccum it up from the bottom, 2 minutes later it all starts shooting thru the jets!! I don't know if my husband switched some valves or something to on/off when he did the flocculant stuff because we vaccumed it out on the ground, not using the filter. I don't know enough about pool flowage to know why what I'm vaccuming up thru the skimmer/pump is coming back in thru the jets?

  1. on your system, do you not have a "back wash" after sweeping.  That gets rid of all the debris you just swept up.  Can you take the cartridge filter out and look at it?  My hot tub has the cartridge filter and I take it out and hose it down to clean.

  2. Looks like u answered ur own question. Husband=valve. He

possibly bypassed the filter because you vacuumed the algae right onto the ground. Now, you want to use the filter but the "seeds" aren't going to the filter. Not knowing your system  you'll need to either investigate the valves yourself or ......ask your husband.

  3. I ma not sure but its sounds blocked... WE dont' have your system so I would suggest gong to the pool supply store and asking help there.

MY first thought is why vacumnn that big stuff up... WE after storms etc.  skim off everything we can and use the net to pick up the bigger stuff (like toads, seed pods, leaves, and dog hair clumps)

Then we run the pump with the shock (after storm) and then use a clarifier if need be.

    Hpeo this helps.
