The great swimmer and former USC NCAA champion, the Olympian Rebecca Soni managed to clinch the female Athlete of the Year Award for the second consecutive year, during the ceremony on Monday, the 22nd of November 2010. She was also presented with
three awards at the seventh annual USA Swimming Foundation Golden Google Awards. The event took place in the city of New York.
Apart from the Female Athlete of the Year Award, Rebecca Soni was also adorned with the home Female Race of the Year title for her great performance and victory in the 200 metre breaststroke at the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships that was held in
Irvine. The champion swimmer was also honoured as a part of the Relay Performance of the Year for her splendid performance in the United States 4 into 100 metre medley event, also held at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine.
Yet again, in the 200 metre breaststroke event at the Pan Pacific Championships, she surpassed the Pan Pacific record time of 2 minutes and 23.64 seconds by finishing the race in a time of 2 minutes and 20.96 seconds. By winning the race in this time, she
not only broke Penny Henys record (1999) but also topped her personal best of 2010 that was 2 minutes and 21.41 seconds. This winning time of hers was the sixth fastest time ever in the 200 metre breaststroke event.
Thirdly, she also clinched the 100 metre breaststroke title by winning both the breaststroke events at the 2010 Summer National Championships.
The fifth head coach of USC, Dave Salo was also appointed to serve for the USA Swimming coaching staff as the assistant for the women’s coach for the upcoming World Short Course Championships that are scheduled to take place from the 10th to 15th
December. This project assignment is one of the numerous responsibilities that have been given to Salo including the one in which she was appointed as the head coach for the 2005 World Championships.
Haley Anderson, USC sophomore and the US swimmer who participated at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships was also made part of the United States National Team that will be swimming at the 2011 World University Games scheduled to take place from the 14th
to 19th of August 2011 in the Chinese city of Shenzhen.
Rebecca Soni is one of best breaststroke swimmers in America and the champion is a three tome Olympic medallist. The 23 year old swimming beauty is currently the world record setter in the 100 metre and 200 metre breaststroke events (short course) and was
formerly the world record holder in the 100 metre and 200 metre breaststroke events (long course).
Moreover, the legendary swimmer is also the winner of eleven medals in different international competitions. These seven medals include six gold and five six silver medals. Soni has had the honour of being a part of all major international swimming events
including the Olympics, the World Championships, the Universiade and the Pan Pacific Championships. She displayed remarkable swimming talent on the international scene, during the 2008 Summer Olympics where she bagged two silver and one gold medal.
Rebecca Soni then went on to maintain these records in the 2009 swimming season when she gave spectacular performances in the 2009 World Aquatics Championships, and thus was named the American Swimmer of the Year by Swimming World. This year, she has once
again been named the Female Athlete of the Year after she once again proved herself during the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships that were held in Irvine in August.
