I can't use it...our group is going to be using them a lot lately...I don't think I am breathing through my nose, but everytime I try to breath in through my mouth, I end up with water in my mouth or down my throat...HELP! I really would like some pointers on how to do it...

Afterwords, I had really bad chest pains and was kind of burping but not exactly burping...

  1. It sounds like you're not getting a good seal...you have to gently but firmly bite down on the mouthpiece and then seal your lips around it so water can't get in.  If you wear a mask that seals around your nose too, then you won't have to worry about that.  I don't have any trouble with water in my nose when I swim because I've learned to gently keep air pressure pushing outward through my nose...I keep my mouth closed and kind of gently hum through my nose when my face is in the water.  It sounds funny but I'm the only one who knows I'm humming!!!  You can do the same thing with a snorkel in your mouth...maintain that mouth seal and be sure the tip of the snorkel doesn't get submerged.
