Are there any swim strokes that help the Obliques?

I know swimming is the best all body excercise.

  1. Really freestyle (front crawl) is good if you can do flip turns, if not your best bet is backstroke( back crawl:)) When you swim it make sure to try to force your stomach to the surface this will give them a good workout!! Hope that helped. I am on the swim team by the way.

  2. Freestyle and backstroke work the obliques the most, but all strokes work the core.

  3. While both of those answers are correct, maybe the best swimming exercise for obliques is a funky stroke called corkscrew.  Basically one arm does a freestyle stroke and the other does a backstroke while you move from your back to your front.  The crossing motion and change of direction really works out your obliques but it is not a competitive stroke by any means.

To really work your obliques do situps where you cross one side of your body over the other, or lay on your side and do a version of a sit up where your really isolate your oblique lifting your shoulder off the ground.

  4. I would have to say butterfly or backstroke works the best.
