  1. Do NOT shave before the first practice. Your team will think you have lost your marbles.

Shaving is done for improved hydrodynamics (minor benefit) but largely for mental preparation. Delay shaving until your target meet at the end of the season. For some teams shaving is done as a group ritual. Do not waste the benefits on the start of the season.

p.s. I just realized that I showed up at my first HS practice with shaved arms -- but that I was because I'd been at Jr. Nationals the weekend before. I knew my teammates would understand, but probably not my classmates (I moved and was at a new school).

  2. you can always wait or talk to some of the guys on the swim team prior to your first practice. swimmers normally always shave. if you don't, the hair creates more drag in the water and can slow you down. it may only be a fraction of a second but in swimming thats a big deal. just see what happens after your first practice.

  3. please, in your next question spell correctly.

The guys swim team in high schol would swim with all their hair to create drag, and often before sectionals or another big meet shave their legs and stuff.  We had 2 that made it to state and they shaved EVERYTHING.  You may get laughed at by others, but you swimmers will know what's up.

  4. you shouldn't shave untill the end of the season right around your sectional or final meet

  5. dont make the mistake of shaving your arms.

its just high school-tell them to get over themselves lol

once u shave ur arm hair it will come back all black and nassssty

  6. i wouldn't shave before the first practice. if you are really hairy you can trim some. different teams have different expectations. some shave the whole season, other during certain meets. its best to wait and see.

  7. Well I know professionals shave cause with less hair you're more aerodynamic or something...

Well basically your trying to have less things that hold you down.

And the hair on your arms could.
