Question:

Swimming decision, should I have quit?

I have been swimming since the age of 7, and I love it. However I love to dance more. This year I was forced to choose between the two, and I chose Dance and a Dance/Drill team instead of High School swimming. Now I am afraid that I made the wrong decision. I was a pretty good swimmer, I earned quite a few points for my team, got four first places at districts(anchoring 3 relays and my individual 100 free) and I am only a freshman. My times were 56 low for 100 free, and 26 low for 50 free (Im a sprint freestyler). But I quit the team that I love with all of my friends that I have known for years. I feel guilty and am questioning my decision. I quit because I wanted more free time to study (yes I am a nerd), but it seems that I havent freed up any time at all, because I was only swimming once or twice a week for 1 1/2 hours, and I couldnt squeeze any more time for swimming because of dance. Did I make the right decision to keep dancing, or should I have swam? Thank you for your input!

  1. you are having second thoughts.  and you sound reluctant to "put yourself into" dance.  maybe you did.  maybe if you go to swimming, you'll feel this way again.  it is much better to give 100% to one things than spread yourself thin...  you've got to feel good about your decision.  which gives you the most joy and a feeling of pride??  go with your heart!!

  2. What is your intention after High School? If you want to dance, keep dancing. But if you are that good of a swimmer, that can open up scholarships to help you get into a great college, which in the long term will do more for you than a High School hobby like dance.

  3. It  honestly depends on YOU. We can't decide for you.

Do you enjoy dance? Is it really what you want to do? Are you happy and don't mind the stress?

If you want to swim, swim. You have some very good times for being, what, 14? 15? If you feel guilty for leaving your friends/the team, then I'd go back. It's one year, so it's not the end of the world.

You really need to be honest with yourself. If you like swim more, go swim. But if you like to dance, then dance.

  4. Where were you more happy?

Change next year if you feel like you made the wrong choice

  5. No one can make that decision except for you.  Do not second guess yourself.  You can always return to swimming next year, you will still be in shape. Hopefully you will be able to work both into your schedule.

  6. wow your times are really really good!!

i dont think you should have quit

but you do whatever you want
