I'm just curious. What are all the events in swimming? Also, if anyone can give me a website or describe by themselves what you do in those events, would be great.

  1. Wow...ok..where to start.

400 Medley Relay (4 ppl swim 4 different strokes.  Each person swimming 100 *4 lengths of the pool* Order is back, breast, fly, free)

    200 Medley Relay

    400 Free Relay

    200 Free Relay

    800 Free Relay

    200 IM (50 Fly, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Free)

    200 Free (8 lengths)

    50 Free (2 lengths)

    100 Free (4 lengths)

    500 Free (20 lengths)

    1650 Free (66 lengths)

    100 Fly (4 lengths)

    200 Fly (8 lengths)

    100 Back (4 lengths)

    200 Back (8 lengths)

    100 Breast (4 lengths)

    200 Breast (8 lengths)

Free is swum on your front and each arm comes out at different times.   So its like one arm hits the water and then the other arm comes in..so on and so forth.

Back is the same as free but swum on your back.  Pinky enters the water first.

Breast is a stroke that u us a frog kick.  The arms shoot out in front of you and then move down to your chest and then shoot out again.

Fly is a very difficult stroke to learn.  Both arms come out of the water at the same time with a dolphin kick.

  2. lets see if you're looking at LONG COURSE (LC) [this is what the olympians race in] which is the METERS pool then these are the events:

    Freestyle:

    50 Meters

    100 Meters

    200 Meters

    400 Meters

    800 Meters

    1600 Meters

    Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly:

    100 & 200 Meters

    Individual Medleys (I.M):

200 and 400 Meters (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle)

Now the YARDS pool, which is called SHORT COURSE (SC) has the same events but just the distance freestyle is where the numbers change.

It's the 500 Yards Freestyle instead of 400 Meters Freestyle

1000 Yards Freestyle instead of 800 Meters Freestyle and etc.

    Relays:

    4x100 Freestyle Relay

4x100 Medley Relay (Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle)

    4x200 Freestyle Relay

NOTE: There are different combinations of relays that can be done, for example, the 4x50 Freestyle Relay, but they just don't do it in the olympics. (It is an event usually swum in high school.)

you can search around for the events and how they work from wikipedia or usaswimming.org

  3. there are 52 individual and relay events in canada.

    25 free, breast, back, fly

    50 free, breast, back, fly

100 free, breast, back, fly, medley

200 free, breast, back, fly, medley

    400 free, medley

    800 free

    1500 free

4x50 medley and free relay (guys, girls, mix)

4x100 medley and free relay (guys, girls mix)

4x200 medley and free relay (guys girls mix)

each of these events is for guys and girls of these age groups:

    10 and under

    11+12

    13+14

    15+16

    17 and over

relay: when 4 different swimmers seperate a distance in one race. (relay team)

Medley: four individual strokes in order fly, back, breast, crawl

Freestyle is any stroke u want but most use the crawl because its the fastest.
