Hi,

I just started swimming for exercise but do not know the proper form for freestyling. Are there any online videos or tutorials with pictures that are what you consider informative? Would it be much easier to take swimming lessons at the local Y? Thanks!

  1. you should watch the Olympics of go to you tube and watch the trials

  2. I would suggest taking lessons from some of the teachers at your local pool. They will be able to teach you how to swim in order to prevent injury, and best swim for exercise.

  3. I took swimming class at Y.. But believe me it wont be as great as you expected..  you would be lucky if you got good teacher.. my teacher wasn't so good , she just gave instruction and leave you on your own to practice also the sessions are too short(30 min) and they waste lots of time chatting with other teachers

  4. You could check your local community center and ask the life guards during an open session 0--- that way you would not have to pay but could still get the info you need.  Love to swim -- swam competitively for 7 years.  Saw the 41 year old female the other set world record -- wish I would have kept it up.

  5. For the best way to swim freestyle, I would go find info on your local swim clubs and teams and take some lessons. It is very hard to describe in words.

Your arms should "zip" up the side of your body and glide in smoothly, fingertips first. Be sure to extend also. Breathe every 3 to 5 strokes, alternating head turns.

Also, check out the website:  www.usswim.com

It has really great info on swimming.

    Hope this helps!! K
