Ok so next year ( freshman year ) we have to do a swimming unit for two weeks. And im really freakin about it cuz i hate the kids at my school ( popular skinny and mean ) who think they are better then everyone else and such. And i dont wanna be in the same class as them because im not the greatest swimmer and im scared of being in deep water and doing dives. And i think swimming is just pointless all together. Any ideas on how to help me calm down? Please no mean comments. If your gunna be mean or rude why answer any way?

  1. Yeah I hate swimming too and my school has a pool so we have to swim all the time. I really didn't want to do it at the start of the year but then heaps of my friends were in my class so we had fun. Maybe you could forge your own note I did that for a term for my friend who practically has a phobia of water, I said that she'd got her belly button pierced and couldn't go swimming because it would get infected. The teacher totally brought it and didn't even ask to see it.

  2. Ooh I hope my school doesn't have that! Because I hate doing dives & going in the deep water too!

Two weeks (10 days) isn't that bad)

But try explaining how you have a big fear about swimming to the school board.

    Good luck with everything!!!

  3. dont worry about itthose two weeks will be over before u kno it

  4. I have a fear of being in water too. Not so much swimming pools because I can see the bottom and where the pool ends but I know how you feel. But all I can say is that you have to face your fears. It is really hard I know. The other day I swam about 1/3 of a mile in the ocean. talk about scary. I had to swim from a boat to an Island and then back. But once I was in the water I just made it my goal to get there and back with out freaking out. I just kept thinking I just have to do this and get it over with, and when I was done I thought that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  When you are in the water just try to have fun. Don't worry about what other people think. Swimming is a really good exercise. It works out your whole body and can make your body feel great. Just remember that there is nothing in the water that can hurt you and if something was to happen there will be plenty of people around to help you.

  5. I was in the same position last year.

I knew I had to do swimming, and I absolutely hated the thought of it.

But it turned out to not be so bad; almost kinda fun.

And you only have it for two weeks, we have it for half of the school year.

All we did was play games in the pool or stay in the shallow end and talk.

It was better than being in a classroom. [:

And if you feel uncomfortable wearing a bathing suit in front of everyone, just put shorts and a t-shirt over it.

That's what most girls in my class did.

    Just don't worry about it.

It's really not going to be as bad as you think it will be. [:

  6. You can always get one of your parents to write or talk to your principal/teacher/school board... They might be able to exempt you from the swimming and do a written assignment instead.  If people ask you why you weren't doing it, tell them you had something wrong with you and were advised against swimming.

  7. don't worry, you're not the only one going through it. i'll have to take 22 days of swimming in order to graduate. you just have to take the 2 weeks and get it done and over with. i also have the same kind of people at my school, but you just have to ignore it. i know i wasn't much of a help, but i'm sure you're not the only one in your school feeling this way.

  8. I had to do that too in 9th grade and i was terrified to death about going swimming but then at the end i realize that it wasent that bad.  Their will be two pools, one that is really deep and another one that is not.  THey will ask you if you know how to swim and if you say you dont you go to the small pool and if you say you do they will take you to the deep one and test you on it.  The test consist of shreading water for like 3 minutes and then they will make you swim half way and thenn the other half swimming backwords.  The test is not that hard.  THen if you are in the small pool they will just show you how to float and swim in your tummy and yeah.  After your excersises (which is like the test) YOU will have free time and do just what ever you want in the pool.  When you get dress, they will give you like 15 minutes to change.  I think it is really up to you to if yoiu want to shower up or not.  SO yeah, that is just my advice and trust me you will really like it and i recomend you just make it as fun as you can.  Best of luck.

  9. You could spend some time now practicing swimming so you will be more comfortable in the water next year. I didn't swim for years and I recently started again, I suck but it really is pretty fun and relaxing especially once you get used to it. Ignore the mean kids there will be people like that your whole life and for the most part they won't amount to much as adults, if they can't get to you they tend to p**s off.

  10. Umm, fake your period or fake sick? I had swimming in middle school for 3 weeks at a time, twice a year. I hated it, as did everyone else. I was lucky enough to have had my period during it once and been sick the week before it started. That got me out of it for two weeks. The other times I just sucked it up. I'm pretty terrible at swimming too, and at my school they seperated everyone into levels and I was in the lowest level--which taught you how to swim. Most of the people in my class were average and up, but there were a few skinny girls. I'm pretty self conscious and wore a shirt over my swim suit.

  11. if one of ur parents won't write a note, then i dont really think u can get out of it. just try to enjoy it. im a swimmer and im going to be a freshmen next year to and even i dont like the idea of having to swim during school with everyone in class. plus 2 weeks isnt really that bad. and i didnt know they let u out of swimming if ur having ur period! btw swimming is not pointless.

i hope u make it through those 2 weeks
