i just started swimming a week ago, and the place where i started swimming on a swim team has many kids that have been swimming for 6, 7 years or at least 2. i'm pretty much the only one who's new, and i feel like everyone is watching me, and i always constantly feel like i'm not good enough because i'm new. the coaches are helpful, but they don't solve my problem. help?

  1. I had the same problem.  when I just started swimming I joined a class where everyone had been swimming for a few years.  A lot of times those kids don't really care about how you are swimming.  I am really paronoid and it felt like when everyone was done their laps and I wasn't that they were all waiting on me.  My mom told me to just ignore it and focus on my own swimming.  Once I stopped caring about if they were looking at me, it felt like they weren't anymore.  You just have to forget about those people and focus on learning and practicing your strokes.  Soon you will forget about not being the best swimmer in your class.  Once you forget about it, so will they.

    Hope I helped :)

  2. dont worry about what they think and just pretend to yourself that your better than them, then you wont worry as much

  3. you should practice at your local pool when you dont have practice and dont let them intimidate you because they probably went throught the same thing when they started. You could just go to another place where everyone is new or keep practicing in another regular pool

    Please answer my questions...

    Thanks

  4. Just listen to everything your coaches say. I have been competitive swimming for years and coaching after that. There will always be someone new in the pool. You have only been swimming for a week. You still have a lot to learn.  You may not be the best swimmer (yet) but I am sure you have lots of other qualities to bring to the team. Be sure to say hello to everyone and cheer your teammates on in meets. You don't have to be the best- or even good for that matter. Just have fun. Give it time- I am sure as you get better- there will be someone worse than you that you haven't even noticed yet.

I have swam with so many people in the past and MANY of them were not that good, but it doesn't mean that I didn't develop some great relationships with them. Don't worry that everyone else is looking at you. ** a little secret** they are just as conscious about themselves.

    Have fun and good luck!!
