  1. Chlorine, actually (sodium hypo chloride) is only added to a pool or drinking water to kill or discourage the growth of normal bacteria and germs, and has little to do with your pH levels.

    Chlorine evaporates very quickly.

The higher the temperature, the more rapid the evaporation.

The pH levels are to be monitored to ensure that the water does not reach an acidic level which is high enough to start destroying the plaster lining of the pool, or become too alkaline to cause rough deposits on the plastered surface of the pool, or to be objectionable to anyone who uses the pool.

    (Relying on my fallible memory)

Basically the chlorine is going to evaporate more rapidly with increased water temperature.

I personally would prefer to swim in a pool which had little or no chlorine than one which was over-chlorinated.

After all, how many people swim in lakes without any detrimental affects?

  2. A stabilizer will help reduce the rate of loss, but when the sun shines on the water it is going to lose chlorine.

  3. Chlorine is destroyed by the UV Rays of the sun, even on a cloudy day this will happen!  What will protect the chlorine or any chlorine is stabilizer, conditioner or cyanuric acid from 10-20ppm.  If you have none in your water then you are seeing the results of this.  There are chlorines with cyanuric acid in them and are called stabilized chlorine but dissolve slowly and release their cyanuric acid slowly.  You need to get your levels up to see the desired effects.

Since you mentioned pH, trichlor is acidic meaning over time it will bring your pH down which can be countered with Soda Ash or pH up so watch it too!

    You're welcome!!
