Swimming pool advice!?

I just recently put up an above ground pool 12" by 19" it holds about 1900 gal. water. My chlorine level is high. Am I supposed to use the sanitizer that is in the bottle with the little spoon as well as a floater with a chlorinated tablet? When I first tested the water is was fine(this is before I got a floater). I found out later that I had bought the wrong size tablet (3") for my floater which takes 1" tablets. Anyway I had to break the 3" tablet and put in my floater , but I didn't use all of it. Also how often do I change my filter?

  1. the floater problem is fine.  Just break up the 3 inch tabs and put the pieces into the floater...  the chemical is the exact same, just a different size.  Its like eating spaghetti or elbows, its the same, its just the shape that differs...

You should change your filter when you notice the water being returned to the pool is getting weak...  IF its a cartridge filter, just take it out, and hose it off, and put it back in.  You dont need to buy a new one every time... that will get expensive.  they are designed to be reused.

The sanitizer in the bottle is shock, and you should only use that once a week on average to superchlorinate the pool and help clean the water of algae and other bacterial debris.
