Swimming pool cover?

I'm in the process of buying a new cover, my old one, the one that came with the house, is done for. it was one of those safety net covers, the ones that run about $800-$1200 bucks. I don't have that kind of money to spend, so what would type of cover could I buy for the midwest? keep in mind we get ice storms/freezing rain every winter, which used to bow down the old cover something fierce, but never broke it. will the "cheaper" covers be able to handle that?

  1. Well you have a good thing and a bad thing.  If you have a standard pool, like a rectangle, you can probably get a replacement safety cover relatively cheap since you will not need to have it installed, such as the drilling of holes into the deck to secure the cover, or need any of the anchors etc.  You might be able to get one cheaper than you think.

If you still dont want to go the safety cover route, you should get a durable pool cover from a pool store.  Don't go to some knockoff warehouse that just happens to have some tarps.

But Beware.... the amount of money you are going to spend on a regular cover and to get the brand new water tubes to put onto the cover to secure it in place, is probably going to cost you 3-4 hundred dollars depending on the size of your pool.  AT that cost, and for the durability and dependability of a safety cover over the cheap covers you want to buy, suck it up and get a new safety cover.  If its a stock cover for a rectangle pool, you should be able to just replace the cover and the "hardware springs" and be able to put it on yourself.  Keep in mind that 8-1200 dollar price range includes the cost of installing a cover.
