I can only find them in the UK. Is there any reason why they aren't available in the US? They say they are 220-240v. Should I be concerned about purchasing one?

  1. They may not have met safety standards is all or they're currently in the process of obtaining the standard. Intex isn't your only choice. Raypak makes two electric heaters, one in the 5 kw range and the other an 11 kw and these are readily available in North America. They're advertised as spa heaters, but  in this application they'll do ( depending on the pool volume, you'll need to decide which one). They both run high volt (240), which your electrician can get off your house electrical box ( It's just two 110's run together, in a nutshell) You have that capability ( we all have clothes dryers which are 220/240).

A word of warning about electric heat though. Your bills will be going up substantially. You'll need to put a solar cover on that pool when it's not in use, to try to keep some of that heat in the pool. If natural gas is an option, I'd explore that before electric heat. It's generally cheaper and heats quicker. Any 100,000 BTU to 125,000 BTU would do the job if this is an above ground.
