Question:

Swimming pools for swimmers-changing facilities-social or cubicle?

The trend of building ridiculous locker villages, where the toilets, entry showers, lockers for clothes, showers for getting seriously washed afterwards, are all in different places so people go dirty, you have to queue to get in these silly little confined spaces which only suit families but not real swimmers who want to have ease and convenience but also chat on your way in and out. These locker villages take the staff ages to clean and supervise because they are so awkward, take up more space and they encourage vandalism let alone perversity.

Shall we go back to having a choice: cubicles for families and odd people who want them, mens and womens facilties each in the same space and including all the things you need without having to awkwardly walk around wet carrying clothes in a towel? Diminish the locker village- swimmers do not want them!

  1. At most places now, including the Y near me, they have a combination of each. There is a mens changing room, a boys changing room, and two for females. As well as Family rooms right outside the room - I think around 6-8 of them? But they have notices that they are only for family uses. Try this?

  2. The powers that be will always change things around. It makes them feel important.  I'm old enough to know these changes are cyclical. I've seen it all before in old swimming baths. It is nothing to do with what people want or need,  its just the directors massaging their own egos.

  3. Better still just have a communal changing area for everyone, male, female, young and old.  Lets get away from shame about being seen naked.

  4. At our pool we have an area for communal changing and cubicles.

  5. To be forced with no choice to lock yourself into a small space to change your clothes says something weird about the society we may live in.

If people, whoever they are, need this then give them a few cubicles to go into. You'd find most people will not use these things.

However, if people grow up thinking they should be locked away as if doing something bad, then they will come to see that as normal and adjusting to normal behaviour again will be hard for them. Knock down the locker villages now, before we get an anal society
